5 Things To Consider Before Buying Expensive Motorcycles in 2024

Whether your purchase of an expensive motorcycle is for a daily commute or for a sunny day’s open road excursion, there are many factors to consider before deciding which one best fits you.

You could still have some fundamental procedure questions. How much is a motorbike, for instance? Exists a guide showing you how to purchase a motorcycle? We will be offering the latter right here and addressing most of your possible inquiries. First, let us consider the kind of bike you should search for. Unbelievably different are options. Examining the many models and sizes of motorcycles on the market will help you to understand the differences between purchasing from a dealership and from an individual.

For me, the choice to purchase a large bike occurred almost over night. Though I always desired one, I never truly considered the cost element, nor anticipated family support for the choice. Once other major facets of life were under control, it was always a dream I wanted to realize some point in future. Still, the situation changed practically night, and the bike ended up in the garage little over a month ago. In a sense, this helped as I was quickly exposed to the many subtle subtleties that accompany such a purchase and could therefore observe and write this down. Living on a larger capacity motorbike in India, even an entry level sub-1000 motorcycle, is nothing like having a little bike previously and traversing your globe on it, as a novice rider.

  1. Pleasing The Family Members Would Be the Toughest Task Among Others

Having said that, avoid buying the motorbike all too soon if you have great trouble persuading the family about the safety of living on such a strong pair of wheels. Getting them convinced to buy is merely the beginning of the road. The true pincher is having to persuade them before every single ride, large or little. And sadly, from safety to not spending enough time with the family, they would have their own set of compelling arguments that would be difficult to refute.

Particularly for ladies, they do enjoy it because such a buy distinguishes you in the social circles. That only helps until the first one or two months after purchase, however. She would always want her partner with her throughout the weekend, however, and she wouldn’t want to spend time wandering around with a bunch of motorcycle pals. Safety is the ultimate priority, and particularly so for those who like single rides.

It definitely spoils the trip even if you manage to win these debates.

  1. You Will Need Time To Ride It

This directs me to the second point. Ever noticed how many superbikes the classifieds have posted with very low odo figures? Some borderline ridiculous even! Though it seems absurd, the truth is that whether you will ever be able to ride, you must first reflect before you buy. Personally, I have seen friends have to part with motorcycles simply because they seldom use them!

There might be many causes; some of the main ones include family and job obligations, health issues, etc. Many of us work daily and could only be getting the odd weekend off. Though many may be occupied with social obligations too, weekends do arrive 4-5 times a month. A ride cannot take precedence over bringing the children to school activities, visiting a cousin’s wedding, or even dining with the wife. One of the reasons many superbike riders restrict themselves to only taking morning rides.

  1. Friends & Family Members Will Not Like You

This is one purchase that alters, if just the way your character is seen. In social circles, paying 35 lakhs on a vehicle is much more reasonable than spending 5 lakhs on a motorbike. Your impression transforms over night from a gentleman to something much more showy, if not that of a lunatic adventure seeker.

Should you still be able to flee these perspective problems, you always have another opportunity when you refuse the calls to let them ride the bike. Golden rule: For the sake of their own life, forbid their riding. Deadly crashing such a motorbike is considerably simpler than one would think!

Neither can you actually ride with them. Riding with a gang of bullets at 60–70 kmph is much different from riding the same gang on a 200kmph vehicle that will cause you to nod off for one hour at the same speeds. Even if you do manage to accomplish it a few times, you can’t help but go on to another organization eventually. Worse yet, you can unintentionally raise your average speeds, thereby endangering yourself as the equipment is not like others and you are outside of comfort zones.

  1. Not The Greatest Choice For Daily Transportation

There is disagreement about this as many motorcyclists utilize their large motorcycles for their business commute. Still, they cannot argue that it is NOT optimal for the city cycle. Under stop-go traffic, most of these devices produce far more heat than is tolerable for our Indian summers. While some of the machines remind with a noticeable jerkiness that you really need to get a move on, others feel like terrible duds at city rpms. Not a decision either is dragging the clutch as one is rather simple to burn through. Office trips should, at best, be carefully scheduled to avoid busy traffic times.

Even if the machine is ideal for traffic, during the year you would burn somewhat expensive parts (tyres, chain, brake pads etc), which may be redirected into the purchase of another decent motorbike for the city usage. For the 650s, for instance, tires cost somewhere between 25 and 35k and would last anywhere between 10 and 15k km; brake pads should cost about 10k, chain kit should cost between 20 and 25k etc. Would cost much more for the larger capacity bikes.

  1. Public Respect For Your Property Will Not Be The Same

You have therefore spent all of your life money on a motorbike and set it out with the finest equipment. But as soon as a third party views your asset, it becomes a burden; most of them want their images captured, or those of their children clicked. While some gently ask for the same, others just hold a youngster on the seat or climb on the bike themselves and assert their selfie rights. Based on my limited experience, I concluded that women conduct even worse when it comes to children while males lose courtesy when they want their pictures snapped.

Why might a basic picture session do damage? Nothing really, but the tweaking won’t end there for sure. Anybody’s easy target is mirrors, switches, etc. Not to mention the likelihood that they may drop the machine as well, not accustomed to the weight of it.
